Ravana as a different man

Ravana, often referred to as a villainous figure dying at the end of the whole tale of Ramayana was a bit more learned man than all of us . A brahmin, master of astravidya challenging the best of khsatriyas.

Without subject distinctions back then the huge figured Sri Lankan monarch mastered every type of learning. With huge hubris and devotion he penanced for thousands of years and acquired the boon of being the strongest on earth. With smooth perpetuation of the plot Ravana brings upon the twists of kidnapping a kshatrani, Sita.

Raising eyebrows and questions such as why did he do so ?

Ravana was loyal to his wife and he did not try to approach Sita in some offending way or so. Although Sita could have protected herself with supernatural powers of a little Trina. Practically analysing Ravana never tried to affect her dignity and did not imprison her into some dark place which Kansa does to devaki. He however imprisons her into a garden with strict security provisions. There are further claims of Ravana capturing women at war in some texts and approaching Rambha the daughter in law of Kubera . Consequently he was cursed. But what was the reason behind capturing a woman who shall never yield him profit anyway.

According to some sources Ravana was killed by his pride.

But why will a man in order to satiate the fire of pride , shall run under loss everytime ?

He gets his kingdom burnt. And garden destroyed. And sacrificed his brothers and sons. His properties damage , his partners are killed . His rakshas protectors are killed . Lankas security damaged .He could have surrendered earlier when his kingdom and men were burnt by the enormous Hanumana. He could have surrendered when Kumbhakarana and Akshaya died. Wat was he waiting for? A genuine monarch doesn’t wait for his Kingdom to be completely destroyed. As a man of pride he would not like to see his able army dying before monkeys.

The only answer was Shiva’s boon. It exclusively stated Ravana could not be immortal but would be killed by Narayana’s incarnate. The destination of salvation by Narayana’s incarnate drove him towards deeds that made mankind repel him. Although some states do worship him and asuras like Mahabali in kerala and Mahishasura with the durga idol in eastern regions of India.

But one needs to distinguish between asura worship and evil worship. It is the learning , ability and devotion that is worshipped in asuras and not pride , cruelty or Adharma.
